FEATHERED LOVE

Updated: May 28, 2019

Bowerbirds know design. The male builds his nest to attract a mate, sticks upon sticks arranged into a bower, the interior and exterior decorated with hundreds of ornaments ranging from leaves to shells to coins and shards of glass. The bowerbird spends hours on this ritual – he knows the emotions he wants to evoke in a potential mate, and he builds accordingly. Design evokes emotion, and the bowerbird knows both.
